The Imperial Gardens of Russia

Summer festival of landscape art opens in June at the Mikhailovsky Garden.

"AVANTGARDENS" - this is the theme of the floristic art exhibition 2017, which is devoted to the Russian avant-garde. From 9 till 18, June the Mikhailovsky Garden will be filled with landscape compositions, garden installations and art objects from flowers, created by florists and inspired by the avant-garde masterpieces of the Russian Museum.

In 2017, the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution marks the beginning of the Russian avant-garde. Walking along the garden’s alleys the audience will see works of landscape art referring to the masterpieces of Kazimir Malevich, Vasily Kandinsky, Vladimir Tatlin, Pavel Filonov, Ivan Puni, Nathan Altman, Mikhail Larionov, Natalia Goncharova and other innovators of the 20th century.

Also, the festival touches the ecological theme, as 2017 in Russia is declared the Year of Ecology. Compositions impress with their originality and conceptual approach to the design of green spaces.

The Imperial Gardens of Russia Festival is the first landscaping festival in Russia and is currently the only one in Northwest Russia. It stands among a number of famous landscaping festivals around the world such as: the Chelsea Flower Show, London; the Hampton Court Flower Show, England; and the International Garden Festival in Chaumont-sur-Loire, France and others.
